How to make 'The Best Dippy Eggs Ever!'

Working as a before-school sitter or an overnight sitter means that it is your responsibility to make breakfast for the children you are looking after. You don't need to worry anymore about giving them the mundane bowl of cereal or that piece of dry toast and jam as now you can make them the best Dippy eggs ever by following this recipe below!

For Dippy eggs and the troop of soldiers you will need:

Ingredients (for 1 child)

1 medium egg

1 slice of ham

2 slices of cheese grated

2 slices of wholemeal bread (white bread is fine if that is all there is)

Dash of vinegar

-Fill a medium-sized pot with water. The pot needs to be big enough for the egg to be submerged. Add a dash of vinegar and bring the water to a boil.

-As soon as it starts to boil, quickly lower in the egg using a slotted spoon, then reduce the heat to a simmer.  Set a timer for 5-minutes for a firm egg white with a runny yolk.

- While the egg is boiling, make the ham and cheese soldiers. Take two slices of bread and top one of the slices with the ham and grated cheese then sandwich them together and either put them in a sandwich toaster or fry the sandwich on a hot pan until the cheese melts and the bread is crispy and golden. Lift the toasted sandwich out of the pan or sandwich maker and cut it into soldier slices.

-Remove the boiled egg from the water once your timer has ended.  Place it in an egg cup and carefully break open the top by smashing it with the back of a teaspoon.

-Pick off the bits of shell that you've cracked to reveal the crater. Eat the top then allow the children to dip the soldiers into the yellow inside and enjoy the best dippy eggs ever!

Alternatively for a change of flavour or if the children are gluten-free try these Maple Syrup Bacon Soldiers instead.

For Dippy Eggs and the Marvellous Maple Syrup Soldier Troop you will need:

Ingredients (for 1 child)

1 medium egg

Dash of vinegar

2 rashers of bacon (smoked or unsmoked)

1 teaspoon of maple syrup

Olive or vegetable oil

-For the bacon, heat a medium-sized frying pan on medium to high heat and add a tiny splash of oil.  When it is hot, carefully lay in the bacon slices and fry for 3 to 4 minutes on each side or until nice and golden to the crisp.

-Pour in the maple syrup. As it starts to bubble, use tongs to turn and roll the bacon around in this for a couple of minutes until completely covered.

-Turn the heat off, lift the bacon out and rest it on the paper to soak up any excess oil or syrup.

- Let the children dip the bacon into their boiled egg and see the smile upon their face!
